24357 – LOTUS SUPER 7 SERIES II 1/24

Legendary British manufacturer Lotus manufactured the legendary Seven between 1957 and 1973, helping cement this lightweight kit car in the public’s imagination across four model Series. The Series II car – the most prolifically produced – was announced in 1960; it had a redesigned frame, modified rear suspension, and smaller 13-inch wheels. Nose cowl and fenders were switched from aluminum to FRP, while in Super 7 cars, a higher-performance engine was employed. Although Lotus ended production in 1973, Caterham took over its manufacture and the car still thrills enthusiasts today, under the name of Caterham Seven.

Crafted by the renowned tuner Carlo Abarth, the Fiat Abarth 695 SS debuted in 1964. Based upon the famous Fiat 500, its engine was enlarged to 689cc and with tuning of the carburetors and more it offered an extra 38hp. Fitted with wide tread suspension, the nimble and sporty 695 SS performed impressively on both city streets and racing circuits; in the 1960s it was a common sight in touring car races, taking numerous victories in sub-700cc classes.

The Renault 5 Turbo was a special version of the inimitable 5, developed for rally races. With a 1.4-liter inline-4 turbo engine in place of the rear seats the Turbo had a midship setup and was equipped with reinforced 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension. Its 3-door hatchback body used lightweight aluminum and plastic panels across the board, and with bulging overfenders, integrated bumper air dam skirts and a roof spoiler, its appearance was a significant departure from the original Renault 5. The works car won the first global rally of 1981 and was a familiar sight near the top of timesheets thereafter.

About the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R
Kawasaki’s legacy of cutting-edge sportbikes has inspired motorcycle fans for generations. Recently, the call for 300km/h plus super sports bikes has motivated several manufactures to bring out powerful contenders. Kawasaki answered the call at the 1999 Paris Motorcycle Show, with the impressive debut of their all-new Ninja ZX-12R. This Ninja was reportedly created in the image of a fighter plane, which comes as no surprise considering that its slippery aerodynamics involved the cooperation of the Aerospace Division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. In fact, the ZX-12R spent more time in the wind tunnel during its development phase than any motorcycle in Kawasaki’s history. The results are evident: small winglets on the sides of the fairing separate airflow around the bike; small wind deflectors on the lower forks deflect turbulent air from the engine; a long lip on the edge of the fairing further smoothens out airflow. Also, projecting just ahead of the front fairing, a large scoop takes advantage of higher air pressure, heightening intake efficiency. A monocoque frame backbone creates an airbox that allows air to pass through the inside of the bike for cooling in addition to ensuring overall rigidity. The powerplant of the Ninja ZX-12R is a fuel injected 4-cylinder 1,199cc engine that pumps out an abundant 178hp. Its four-into-two-into-one exhaust system features a titanium muffler paired with a catalyzer, which helps eliminate unburned hydrocarbons for cleaner emissions. Kawasaki brilliantly raised the superbike standard in performance, power and aerodynamics with their series flagship, the Ninja ZX-12R.
