Background information

Corfu, 1981: A breathtaking chase through Mediterranean olive groves was supposed to make film history. In “On a Deadly Mission” the humble Citroen 2CV was transformed into a daring getaway car. When Bond and Melina flee from heavily armed killers in the “Duck”, the car, which was actually designed as a simple land vehicle, shows its true face. With breakneck maneuvers, surprising agility and typical Bond sophistication, the 2CV masters every situation, no matter how dangerous. This scene not only catapulted the French “duck” into the hearts of Bond fans, but also made her a timeless film icon. The Series II car – the most prolifically produced – was announced in 1960; it had a redesigned frame, modified rear suspension, and smaller 13-inch wheels. Nose cowl and fenders were switched from aluminum to FRP, while in Super 7 cars, a higher-performance engine was employed. Although Lotus ended production in 1973, Caterham took over its manufacture and the car still thrills enthusiasts today, under the name of Caterham Seven.

The Renault 5 Turbo was a special version of the inimitable 5, developed for rally races. With a 1.4-liter inline-4 turbo engine in place of the rear seats the Turbo had a midship setup and was equipped with reinforced 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension. Its 3-door hatchback body used lightweight aluminum and plastic panels across the board, and with bulging overfenders, integrated bumper air dam skirts and a roof spoiler, its appearance was a significant departure from the original Renault 5. The works car won the first global rally of 1981 and was a familiar sight near the top of timesheets thereafter.
